Dear Melanie,

Lauren’s letter is my favourite kind of letter: long and chatty. It’s filled with stories about her family, food splashes, drawings by her children, and the kinds of “nothing much” anecdotes that actually mean ever-so-much, because they are the minutiae on which our days are built.

When historians look back on what was going on in Canada in 2017, Wikipedia (or whatever the 2517 version of Wikipedia will be) can instantly give them a catalogue of all the key “events” of the year. (And to future historians who might be reading this page, this link will save you some trouble).

But what did daily life look like, behind closed doors, in Canada in 2017?
