After a pause that turned into a lull that ended up lasting almost as long as a pregnancy, both of us (Naomi and Melanie) are back in our respective kitchens, back reading letters and stories, and back writing letters of our own.
Thank you for your patience with us. What a year it has been! Both of us have plenty of stories to tell, and explanations for our long and unexpected silence. But those are for other letters on other days.
We’ve used these months to reset, restore, and revisit our ideas, and have some exciting new content to share with you. And to kick us off, for the first time in six years (!!), the Meals in the Mail mailbox is officially open to receive your recipes!
So… do you have a recipe that means something special to you?
We would be thrilled if you would share it with us in a letter, so that we can share it with the rest of the Meals in the Mail community in turn. We’ll write back to everyone who sends in a recipe, whether or not it makes it onto our platforms or into our publications.
Meals in the Mail is a truly heartfelt, collaborative, community art project. It’s time-travel through food; it opens our eyes to the ways people cook, eat and celebrate all over the world; and it keeps alive our precious relationships, memories and moments.
There is something so tangible about writing down our stories and recipes by hand, placing them inside an envelope, putting a stamp in the top right-hand corner, and dropping them into the post-box. Somehow, it comes to mean so much more than simply sending the same words in an email!
And the food… your recipe… this encapsulates your own nostalgia, moments and memories, given new life by sharing them with strangers all over the world.

The mailbox is open right now, and we will accept everything that is postmarked on or before Wednesday 8 November, 2023 (no matter how long it takes to get to us after that point - we understand how slow the post can be!).
